Please note that tuition payments are the same every month because students make monthly payments on annual tuition. Your monthly tuition is not based on the number of lessons you/your student received in any given month.

For New Students
If you join Music Discovery at any point of the year that is not the first week of Fall Term, you will be required to catch up on tuition payments to the month you begin on, prorated so as not to include lessons that were missed.
For example, if your first lesson after your free trial lesson is in October during Week 10, you will be required to pay tuition for August, September, and October, minus 9 lessons you will not receive. Multiply monthly tuition for one student, $135.85, times three months, and you get $407.55. Multiply 9 times the per-lesson rate of $37.05, and you get $333.45. Subtract $333.45 from $407.55, and your first tuition payment will be $74.10.
At certain times of the year, these calculations will result in a very low number or even a negative number. In those cases, and in cases where the deadline for the following month is coming up soon, we may ask you to include another month in your first payment and push the due date to the 8th of the following month. This may result in your first tuition payment being somewhat higher than the standard payment. If this creates a problem for you, please talk to us and we will work with you to find a solution.
for students who unenroll
If you are planning to unenroll, please let us know as soon as possible. Students often assume that if they are current on tuition payments, they should be able to stop lessons at the end of the month without leaving a balance. Because you’re making monthly payments on annual tuition, this is not necessarily the case.
Example: A student wishes to unenroll at the end of October, after their Week 13 lesson. This means they will have received 13 lessons for the year and have made three payments (August, September, October). Amount paid is $407.55 ($135.85 times 3), minus the value of lessons received (13 times 37.05), $481.65, which leaves $74.10 due. At certain times of year, there may be a credit due to the student. We do not offer refunds, but we will be happy to give all the lessons that have been paid for.
scholarships
We believe every child deserves the chance to learn and make music. Our scholarship program is available to students who have not yet graduated from high school and have been taking lessons with us for at least six months. We look for students who show commitment, good attendance, and a positive attitude in lessons.
To remain in the scholarship program, students must continue to meet certain expectations. We use a points system to track practice habits, lesson attendance, participation in events, performances, and overall effort. Points help us ensure that scholarship recipients stay engaged and continue to grow as musicians.
If your family is experiencing financial hardship, please reach out. We don’t mind if you’re behind on tuition, as long as you’re communicating with us and working toward a payment plan. We’ll do our best to help keep your student learning.
